About me
I’m an academic and writer with a love for the hidden parts of Renaissance literature and history.

In my academic work, I teach everything from Shakespeare to Dickens. My own research focuses on the links between literature and medicine, especially how people used poems and stories to think about their bodies and health.
I’m an expert in the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, a time when the world was changing and new political, cultural and scientific ideas were transforming the lives of everyday people.
As well as academic writing, I love to communicate about history and literature in podcasts, articles, radio and my forthcoming book.
